According to a Facebook post from the North Shore Veterinary Hospital, the owner and dog were walking along a trail near Brighton Beach when the attack took place.
The post also said a DNR officer told the hospital attacks like this one are becoming more common in Duluth and the surrounding area thanks to deer populations that are concentrating in urban areas.
The veterinary office also said the officer recommended escorting pets outside, especially at night, and always keeping dogs leashed.
