‘Game of Thrones’ blamed for increased ‘dire wolf’ attacks in Wales

Fantasy series “Game of Thrones” could be to blame for a startling increase in livestock attacks in Wales. Huskies — which resemble the “dire wolves” in the smash HBO series–have seen a 700% spike in adoptions throughout the UK last year, the Daily Post reported.

The North Wales Police have now observed a “huge increase” in the number of huskies slaughtering livestock – the most recent attack on Monday when a husky killed a sheep and injured another in the Conwy Valley.
The attacks are part of a pattern–huskies have attacked sheep at least nine times a month across Northern Wales, according to a Freedom of Information request by the Daily Post.
“It’s got to the stage now where I hear about an attack and it’s almost always a husky,” Sgt Rob Taylor of the North Wales Police and Rural Crime Team said.
“It used to be Alsatians a lot but now every time they ring me it always seems to be a husky.”
Though authorities are not 100% certain what the root of the increase is, they say they “haven’t ruled anything out.”
Animal expert Caroline Thompson says that dog owners don’t really know what they’re getting into when they adopt a husky.
“Sadly, the reason we’re now seeing so many of these breeds being given up is because so many people get them without doing enough research into the kind of care they need.”
