Gather November 7, celebrate NO Wolf Hunt

A Small Howl of Victory! Thankfully, a “clean” budget Continuing Resolution was approved in Washington D.C.  without harmful new policy riders that would have removed wolves from the Endangered Species List, and would give management back to the states for wolf trophy killings. This is a small and temporary victory, and the fight is not yet finished. There are many who still wish to ignore scientific and sensible protections for wolves. Another federal budget will need to be approved by Congress by December 11 that could contain harmful wolf legislation. Howling For Wolves was in Washington D.C. last week advocating to protect wolves for future generations. Your voice makes a difference! Gather Nov 7, Celebrate Progress toward Protecting Wolves On what would have been the first day of Minnesota’s wolf trophy hunt, we will gather to organize and cheer wolves living this fall because there will not be a trophy hunt. We hope you’ll join us at The Happy Gnome’s upstairs private room in St. Paul on November7.  We will discuss the federal status of wolves, hear from our local state legislators who will work with us to end Minnesota’s wolf hunt, and celebrate wolves living! Join us from 12 to 2 PM at The Happy Gnome’s upstairs room, 498 Selby Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55102. RSVP to volunteer@howlingforwolves.org. There is no charge and all are encouraged to attend. The wolf is Minnesota’s Lion. The threats facing the wolf in Minnesota and other states are similar to those faced by countless species worldwide. Howling For Wolves was eager to join fellow concerned citizens at the Global March for Elephants, Rhinos and Lions on Sunday, October 4. Howling For Wolves meets with U.S. Senator Al Franken’s staff On Friday, October 2, Howling For Wolves President and Founder Maureen Hackett met with U.S. Senator Al Franken’s Minnesota Outreach Director Al Junke, along with representatives with the Endangered Species Coalition, to discuss wolf trophy hunts. Monitoring the MN Department of Natural Resources In an effort to gather more data on the Minnesota DNR’s wolf population surveys, HFW is in the process of obtaining the raw data through a public records request. We also have scientists lined up to review the documents. We are also carefully watching the recent proposed rule changes that were announced by the Minnesota DNR this week showing their plans are ready to go for future potential wolf trophy hunts. Investigating and—when necessary—challenging the state’s claims regarding their approach to Minnesota’s gray wolf is among the most important work we do.
