Bella, a gray wolf at Potter Park Zoo, died Wednesday.
Bella arrived at the zoo in April 2009 and had shared a habitat with a female gray wolf, Tala, who arrived in 2012 from New York. Bella came from Wildlife Science Center in Forest Lake, Minnesota.
“We are sad to see Bella pass but are fortunate to know she lived far beyond her life expectancy and received excellent care with us at Potter Park Zoo,” Sherrie Graham, the zoo’s executive director, said in a statement. “Bella had a wonderful life and she will surely be missed.”
Cynthia Wagner, the zoo’s animal curator, said the zoo wants to bring in a young wolf soon.
The gray wolf, also known as the timber wolf, is the most endangered wolf in North America, according to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
