Red Wolf Pups! 8 litter bundles of adorable fur were born on March 30, 2014.
The 3 boys and 5 girls are doing well and are in the den with mom.
A
litter of eight red wolf pups born at the Jackson Zoo March 30 will be
tucked in their den another several weeks with mom before venturing out,
the zoo announced Monday.
But early
pictures show the tiny furballs in good form. The pups comprise the
second litter for parents mom Taladu and dad Kanati, both bearing
Cherokee names.
The litter includes three males and five females. “We’ve
checked and weighed all of the pups. They are all doing well and come
in around 600 grams or about 1.3 pounds,” Deputy Director Dave Wetzel
said in a news release. “It will be several weeks before mom lets them
venture from the den, so it will be some time before the public will be
able to see them.”
Several
pups born last year had to be raised by zoo veterinary staff because of
a virus; those are in an enclosure behind the red wolf exhibit; males
Wowati, Uyosi and Asdaya are visible from the main overlook.
The as-yet unnamed litter will likely be given Native American names.
