An Open Letter from CBD for Wolf Protection

Wyoming gray wolves
We have only two weeks to stop
Wyoming's wolf slaughter
.
It's as sick as it is inevitable.

This week a reality TV show is broadcasting the killing of a wolf in Montana. "It's the funnest thing I've done in years," the gleeful host crows after shooting the wolf with a high-powered rifle.

Viewers flocking to the northern Rockies to join in this "fun" will have even more chances to kill wolves if we don't stop the Interior Department's imminent approval of Wyoming's wolf-massacre plan.

Interior plans to issue the approval at the end of the month, so we have just two weeks to prepare an emergency legal case to stop the slaughter. Please help by making a generous donation to the Center for Biological Diversity's Emergency Wolf Protection Fund today
. The lives of hundreds of wolves depend on it.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar is rushing the approval to ensure Wyoming's wolf-kill plan will be carried out as scheduled this fall, even though the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service rejected a similar plan by Wyoming last year.

The plan will strip all protections from wolves in more than 80 percent of the state. Wyoming's shoot-on-sight plan will ensure the killing of at least 170 wolves and likely many more before the shooting is over.

We can't let wolves be slaughtered for the sake of ranchers, politicians and reality TV. Please help us shut down their sickening "fun" by making a donation today to our Emergency Wolf Protection Fund and passing this appeal along to your friends.

Wyoming's plan will allow wolves to be indiscriminately killed outside Yellowstone National Park and a few other safe havens: 80 percent of the state will become a wolf-killing zone.

That means close to 200 wolves -- highly social animals with intricate family structures -- will be shot or trapped to death. Many of them just had pups this spring. If the government has its way, it will be open season on Wyoming's wolf families.

The reality show host/wolf killer calls wolf advocates like the Center "a bunch of wingnut screwballs" for trying to save the wolves. Apparently, in the world of reality TV, basic humaneness earns you screwball status. Please -- help us save these wolves. We can do it if anyone can: With an unparalleled record of stopping wolf killing in the northern Rockies, Oregon, the Southwest and the Great Lakes, our lawyers and activists are the best in the business when it comes to saving endangered species.

But the clock is ticking fast. We have just two weeks to get our legal case together and seek an injunction to stop the killing in Wyoming. Please help by making as generous a donation as you can today to our Emergency Wolf Protection Fund.

For the wild,

P.S. -- Thankfully hunters are already expressing their disgust at televising the killing of wolves for entertainment and profit. Help us stop this kind of "fun" from spreading by donating today to our Emergency Wolf Protection Fund
