Suspect sausages target Sweden’s wolves

Suspect sausages containing vials of an unknown white powder have been found scattered around the woods in Dalarna, central Sweden, in what police believe is an attempt to poison the area’s wolves. According to Aftonbladet newspaper, officers think the Spanish chorizo sausages may contain cyanide.

“Someone has most likely laid them out to poison wolves,” said Sven-Åke Petters of the Dalarna police to the paper. He added, however, that such actions could also harm local children.

Samples of the offending foodstuff have been sent to the National Laboratory of Forensic Science (Statens kriminaltekniska laboratorium – SKL) for testing.

This is not the first time tainted treats have been discovered in Swedish woods. Since 2004, six cases of poisoned meat have been found in the wilderness around Rättvik, according to local newspaper Dalarna Tidning (DT).
