A pair of gray wolves born at the New York State Zoo at Thompson Park
in Watertown were formally introduced at the Seneca Park Zoo in
Rochester on Wednesday.
The wolves, Timber and Willow, were born in May 2014 in a litter of nine puppies. They were transferred to the Rochester Zoo via the Buffalo Zoo.
The zoo, in a statement on its Facebook page, said that the wolves will serve as ambassadors of their wild relatives and that they “hope that they will inspire you to take action on behalf of their conservation.”
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said that the wolf’s population has rebounded from the brink of extinction, and estimated there are at least 5,521 gray wolves in the contiguous United States.
