The Michigan DNR is
offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction
of the person responsible for shooting a gray wolf in the Upper
Peninsula.
The wolf was shot Saturday along M-26, about a half-mile south of Twin Lakes in Houghton County.
The DNR says someone parked along the west shoulder of M-26 and shot the wolf from their vehicle. The wolf was standing on the snowmobile trail to the west of M-26.
If convicted, the shooter could face up to 90 days in jail and a fine of up to $1,000, plus another $1,500 for reimbursement to the state.
Gray wolves are a federally endangered species and can only be killed in Michigan in the defense of human life.
Anyone with information should call the Marquette DNR at (906) 292-7800 or the Report All Poaching line at 1-800-292-7800 FREE.
