Another dog attacked by wolves in Albert Beach, owner says

2 large wolves trapped and killed in area by Manitoba Conservation after dogs killed in September

Another dog has been attacked by wolves in Albert Beach, Man.

Gary Wingate said his dog was attacked in the middle of the night on Nov. 16 at the Lake Winnipeg community north of Grand Beach.

Wingate said his 10-year-old shepherd-cross Norman was supposed to be locked in the porch when he heard his other dog barking.

Wingate and his wife went to check what was wrong and found the gate to the porch was open, and there were wolves in the yard.

He rushed out to scare the wolves away, and Norman came limping out of a treed area.

He had "bite marks on his back, bite marks on his throat and on the back of his neck," Wingate said.
The dog was taken to a vet in Selkirk and put on antibiotics.

Norman will be OK, but if it "hadn't been for Coco alerting us, I'm sure Norman would have been killed," Wingate said.

Now, Norman sleeps inside the house instead of on the porch.

In September, wolves killed a dog in Albert beach and another two in Hillside Beach.
In October, Manitoba Conservation trapped and killed two large wolves in the Victoria Beach and Hillside Beach area. Officials said at the time they believed the wolves were responsible for killing multiple dogs in September.

Albert Beach is 100 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
