These constitute the fourth and fifth livestock kills that the pack is confirmed to have committed since June 22. The Mt. Emily pack roams Union and Umatilla counties. Biologists for ODFW indicate that radio-collared wolves in that pack were about a half mile of the kill sites on both occasions. The injuries suffered by the partially eaten sheep were consistent with wolves.
Michelle Dennehy of the ODFW tells KUMA News that the agency cannot take lethal action against a pack that is habitually preying on livestock unless a livestock producer files a formal request. As of yesterday afternoon, no such request had been filed.
