Statue of the wolf that, according
to legend, stood guard over the decapitated head of King Edmund (the
first Patron Saint of England) until his followers found the head and
buried it with his body. Edmund's head was removed by Danish Vikings
after they captured him during a battle at Thetford. When he refused to
renounce his faith, they tied him to a tree, tortured him, used him for
target practice, then removed his head and hid it in a forest, to
prevent him from having a christian burial. In the 19th century, a
coffin was found in ruins, in Bury St Edmunds (where Edmund was buried),
that contained the bones of a wolf...
