Howling for wolves at Binder Park Zoo

Anyone hearing howls at Binder Park Zoo on Saturday might have thought it was just the wolves being wolves, but some kids were being wolves, too.

Howl-A-Palooza, held at the zoo at 7400 Division Drive each year, is a celebration of the animal and is held in conjunction with National Wolf Awareness Week. Throughout the day, the zoo put on special events featuring wolves and held a wolf howling contest.

The winner of the contest received an overnight stay in Traverse City’s Great Wolf Lodge.
Other events included zookeeper talks about wolves and a special Wolf Senses Discovery Center exhibit. The zoo’s Mexican wolves were available for $40 “adoptions,” which get the proud parents a certificate, wolf photograph and a plush wolf.
