To the editor:
I think there is a common misconception about the wolf hunt in
Minnesota. A few years ago when the wolf came off the endangered species
list, the MN DNR instituted a wolf hunting season. However, this season
was not created for population control.
It is purely for the killing of wolves in a recreational hunt, which
we know creates very unstable packs with unpredictable effects.
I know some farmers may have issues with wolves. However, there is no
scientific evidence that hunting wolves decreases wolf predations on
livestock.
I hope the politicians who represent us in St. Paul take the time to
understand this issue and vote for improved data collection and full
implementation of the Wolf Management Plan.
They owe it to all of Minnesota to do the right thing.
