The Good News-the Slaughter stops; the Bad News-the Slaughter continues

2 wolf hunting zones close

Two more wolf hunting zones will be closing today (Wednesday).
Zones 1 and 5 will be closed to hunting and trapping of wolves at 7 pm tonight. Department of Natural Resources officials expect the quota of wolves will be harvested in both zones by then.
The total quota for wolves this year was set at 251 wolves. Zone was was set for 76 harvests and 72 have been taken. Zone 5 was set for 34 wolves and 33 have been taken.

“Harvest trends in Zone 1 have been steady with an increased harvest rate over the past few days and Zone 5 has been steady with two additional wolves registered late in the day Tuesday, prompting closure ,” said David MacFarland, DNR large carnivore specialist. “We will be considering harvest trends as we approach quotas in other zones as well.”
Zone 2 closed last week just 9 days into the hunt.
