Sanctuary for wolves

Wolf Mountain from Sam Price-Waldman on Vimeo.

Tonya Littlewolf has rescued wolves all her life. At a sanctuary in the empty California desert, she looks after 14 majestic wolves which have been rescued from breeders. Yet, as she cares for the creatures, even feeding them mouth-to-mouth, Tonya questions whether these wolves would be better off in the wild. Her facilities are limited in terms of space but once domesticated, such animals are hard to reintroduce to the wild.

Tonya, 62, has been with the wolves since she was very young, crediting her grandfather, an Apache, with introducing her to the animals and showing she, herself, had a special bond with the animals. She grew up with some wild wolves starting at about two years old. The wolves trusted her so they allowed her to spend time with them in their den. As Tonya grew, she spent all of her free time studying the wolves behavior and learning their ways, and it is said she has the wolf spirit in her and she will always have a special relationship with them.
