Dear Wolf Supporters,
You
personally can have a direct impact on whether or not wolves return to
California. Here is how: Right now the California Department of Fish and
Wildlife is seeking information to include in its report on whether to
afford legal protections to this vital species.
In
2012, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife received a
petition to protect gray wolves under the California Endangered Species
Act. You can help ensure they include important information about wolf
taxonomy, biology, management recommendations, population, threats, or
habitat in their final recommendation to the state Fish and Game
Commission on whether to protect wolves under state law.
Wolves
are native to California and once roamed the state widely before being
extirpated by humans. The arrival in late 2011 of OR-7, the first wolf
documented in California in almost 90 years, marked a historic
homecoming and the beginning of the return of wolves to our state. But wolves entering California face numerous threats to their survival, particularly human-caused mortality. We
believe that protecting wolves under California's Endangered Species
Act would give wolves that enter our state the best possible chance for
survival.
Take part in this important decision -- comments must be received by May 6th to be considered. For sources of information on wolves, check out our website and wolf links.
