Marking a milestone of sorts in the history of wild gray wolves
in California, the state Department of Fish and Game today unveiled a section of its web site devoted to the species.
The site is intended to provide basic details about OR7, the wolf that migrated into California from Oregon on Dec. 28. It offers information about California's first confirmed wild wolf in nearly 90 years, a frequently-asked-questions page on the behavior and management of wolves, and links to Oregon wolf photos and a wolf-versus-coyote identification guide prepared by the state of Montana.
Though the information is limited at this stage, Fish and Game spokeswoman Jordan Traverso said there would be "more to come" as the department's management efforts unfold.
The 2-year-old male wolf was dubbed "Journey" by voters in a contest sponsored by the conservation group Oregon Wild. As of Thursday, the wolf had reached eastern Shasta County as it continued moving further south into California.
